Online Playbook
A simple online animated playbook could really enhance our players' ability to prepare for upcoming games. For example, a scouting report could include text about an opponent, animated X's & O's to break down a team's strategy, and video to show the opposing team executing the play live. The ability to trade animated plays or practice drills with other coaches would also be helpful.

Great idea – now if only it really was “simple!” ;)
Building playmaking software is actually pretty involved (we don’t half-ass things around here!) so we’re considering how we can potentially fit this functionality into HomeField in the most functional way possible.
I am really intrigued by the idea to trade animated plays and I’m curious if other coaches agree. That sounds like an awesome idea for coaches who collaborate… Definitely keeping that in mind.
Thanks for the input. Keep more ideas coming…

Sloooooooowwww-mmmmmmooo…
Haha… Great idea!
As for the larger viewing screen, have you tried full-screen?! Mouse over a video and it’s in the bottom right corner!
UPDATE: We’re planning to adjust the default widths of the video player (wider) and the comments (narrower) in Discussions.

30 day Pro Account - Free trial
I would love to view my videos in HD but will the access time to a point in the film be slower? If so, will the delay be annoying enough to discourage players or coaches from using it?
My suggestion is to allow for a 2 week or 30 day trial to the Pro account to try out the HD video option.

Video playback is more a function of individual internet connections than anything else. That being said, we don’t notice any real difference in playback time and functionality between our Free and Pro plans – what we do notice, is better quality!
Still, interesting idea to give it a test run, or at the very least, show off some HD vid on TeamHomeField.com as a demo.
Thanks!

Allow coaches to draw on films
Having the ability to spot-shadow or draw lines/arrows would be a great feature that some other companies use.

These are solid ideas that we’ve been considering for a while. We’re currently focusing on HomeField’s overall user interface and internal architecture, but as we complete that we’ll start to think about what new features we should add.
If you’d like me to look at some other examples, shoot me an email with links to reece@teamhomefield.com

Allow Coaches to view usage information of individual players
Allow Coaches to see information on players usage of HomeField. How often they log in, what the they watch, how long they watch for, etc.

We’ve got a feature in the works along these lines… Look for us to release a test version this Spring.

Live collaboration like "Go to Meeting"
Allow players to log in and listen to the coach talk via mic as he runs through the video. Players could type in questions and the coach can answer them via mic or type back.

Interesting idea… Though we believe in the power of asynchronous collaboration, there is potential for some live video review. We’ll keep it in mind. Thanks!

Funny… we had this exact functionality in an earlier version, but we ultimately pulled it out. If we hear more requests for it, we’ll probably turn it back on.
Thanks!

let coaches condense multiple smaller videos into one large video.
When you upload a DVD, it uploads as 4 or 5 smaller videos. HomeField should allow you to take those smaller videos, and make them one larger video.

This is a great idea and something we’ve been thinking about for a while. We know that a game film doesn’t always come in one file, so we’re thinking of how to incorporate this functionality so it works for HomeField as a whole. We’ll keep you posted!

Send a direct note about a video to a specific player outside of a discussion.
Keep dialogue going with players and coaches even when they aren't in a discussion

Useful idea. One way to “hack” around this, would be to add that player as her own group. Then, ‘Start a Discussion’ around the video and only add her group. With the invite, you can add a message and she’ll be the only one who sees it.
I know it’s a work-around, but it should do the trick until we fix this.
Thanks for the feedback!

Make the Discussion fields longer
Currently, the title for a discussion is only about 15 character. I'd like to see a longer field, maybe 30 0r 40 characters to give more detail.

Ah… We hear ya, but we actually keep the discussion titles to a limited number of characters to allow room for the titles of multiple discussions around the same video. We’ll keep an eye on it and if it becomes a bigger problem, we’ll make a change…

I think the player/fan profiles could have more info
Coaches could have access to edit but maybe something like- ht, wt, position, maybe get into max bench, max squat. either way, make it so the player can personalize this and be on it a little longer then just for film. make it like a teams "facebook" account
for fans i would like to know more about them. are they parents? are they alumni? are they donating to our team? their addresses.

You’re reading our minds! We’re fully aware that HomeField is focused almost entirely on game film, and that there is room for a lot more. The question is: what will help your team win?
Making a “team’s facebook account” might not be the best thing we can do for your team and we want to add features that make your experience – whether as a coach, a player, or a fan – as powerful as possible.
So, we are planning to include more info over time, and it is important to hear exactly what you think is relevant. If you have specific ideas, please share!
Thanks again.

We make all videos on HomeField publicly viewable by the team by default, because we believe players should have access to the game film that relates to them.
However, that doesn’t mean they have to see you discussing the film with other coaches. So if you want to start a private discussion with just other coaches, simply hit “Start Discussion” on any video on your home screen and in the discussion under “Who Can View This?” just add the coaches you want.
All that being said, we hear your concern about keeping some video private. We’d love to hear more about this though. Is this scout video? Practice video? What are the reasons for keeping it private? Will it always be private or will it be public at some point? Any information about how you want to use the video will help us design a solution.
Shoot me an email… more

sort by type of videos
The ability to create sub folders. For example, we load drills and coaching point videos to the site. It would be nice to have face off drills separate from shooting drills and defensive drills, etc.
Today you can only provide further detail for game film.

Solid idea… in the meantime, I’ll suggest an alternative that just might do the trick:
As you can see now, HomeField videos are sorted by team name on the left hand side of your Chalkboard (the main page). If you make the “Team” in a video “Faceoff Unit” or “Extra Man Offense,” all the videos with that team name will appear together.
The best way to do that for your team would be to label them with your team name and the relevant unit. Ex: “Brown Bears” vs. “Defense” Even if it’s your own defense, it will still be organized enough for your players.
Try it and let me know how it goes. reece@teamhomefield.com
And thanks for the input!

Make "coach" title optional
I'm not a coach but instead to the video work. I'd like the coach title to be an option somewhere in the profile settings. Maybe a dropdown box with Coach, Mr, Mrs, Dr, etc.

You are a coach – the video coach! ;)
Right now we don’t have many users who aren’t coaches themselves, but if we see the need to create another type of account, we’ll definitely let you know how we handle it.
Thanks for the feedback!

Allow keyframes to be downloaded as a seperate video
It would be a killer feature to allow players and coaches to just download the offensive keyframes, or just download the defensive keyframes of a video. Not sure how it would work on the backend, but the ability to take what is specific to your position and have it ready to play on the go (i.e. Bus Ride with no internet) would be awesome.

Totally with you on this one, Jordan, though we’re thinking a mobile application may be the way to go here (vs. downloads).

Take off the feedback button? But how did you know where to give us feedback? ;)
We know that on some screens with low resolution, the feedback tab can slightly interfere with your use of HomeField, but we feel it’s important to make it easy for our users to give us feedback on our product as it is still under development.
That being said, we hear you and we’ll think about ways we might be able to move it or make it less of an inconvenience to some.
Thanks for the feedback.

Bring text entered in one discussion into another.
I posted a lot of comments in the general discussion. I don't want to have to write them again in a private discussion room I've made. I should be able to bring certain comments from one discussion in another

Bring the hotkeys into the next video frame
Similar to the discussion comment, I'm about to watch video #2 of our opponents and need to re-enter hot keys for this again. Not a lot of time but a hassle that I would prefer not to do again. Make sense?

This one’s already in the works!
We’ve been working hard on the user interface to be cleaner and more organized and that includes how the editor will work as well.
Great idea… Keep an eye out for it later this summer.
